The Palazzo Pubblico is the civic heart of Siena, built between 1297 and 1310. Its imposing red brick façade dominates Piazza del Campo and represents a perfect example of civil Sienese Gothic, where power and art meet. Inside, the Civic Museum houses masterpieces such as Ambrogio Lorenzetti’s “Good Government” frescoes, a visual journey that tells the story of the city’s medieval political, social, and economic life.
The courtyard and interiors offer elegant views with arches and decorated rooms, where every architectural detail narrates centuries of civic governance. The Torre del Mangia, standing 102 meters tall, rises next to the Palazzo Pubblico and offers one of the most spectacular views of Siena and the surrounding countryside. Built between 1338 and 1348, the tower owes its name to the first bell-ringer, “Mangiaguadagni,” known for his appetite. The climb, via an internal staircase of about 400 steps, leads to a breathtaking panorama overlooking Piazza del Campo and the entire surrounding area.
