San Gimignano, with its towers rising above the Sienese hills, is one of the most fascinating medieval villages in Italy and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Walking through its cobbled streets, you can feel an atmosphere from another era — full of artisan shops, scenic squares, and sudden panoramic views opening between alleys and terraces.

The heart of the town is Piazza della Cisterna, surrounded by towers and medieval buildings, and Piazza del Duomo, where you’ll find the Collegiata di Santa Maria Assunta and the Palazzo Comunale with the Torre Grossa, the tallest in the city.

Among the must-sees are the Casa e Torre Campatelli, a rare example of a historic Tuscan residence, and the Duomo di San Gimignano, famous for its splendid 14th-century frescoes.
In the surroundings, the landscape opens up to vineyards and olive groves that produce the renowned Vernaccia di San Gimignano, the first Italian white wine to receive the DOCG label.

San Gimignano is also an ideal starting point to discover the Sienese Chianti and nearby villages such as Certaldo, Colle di Val d’Elsa, and Volterra.

The best time to visit San Gimignano is from April to October, when the weather is pleasant and the long days invite you to explore the town and its surroundings. In summer, the squares come alive with events and festivals, but it is also the busiest period. For a quieter atmosphere, choose spring or early autumn.

Advance bookings – We recommend buying tickets in advance for the main attractions (like the Duomo or Torre Campatelli) and booking tastings or experiences at local estates ahead of time, as spaces are often limited.

Getting around – San Gimignano’s historic center is entirely pedestrian. Park in one of the external lots (P1, P2, or P3) and reach the town on foot or by free shuttle buses. To explore the surroundings, a car is the most convenient option: you can easily reach the Chianti hills, Volterra, and Siena along breathtaking scenic roads.

What to bring – Comfortable shoes for slopes and cobblestones, hat, sunscreen, and camera: San Gimignano offers postcard-perfect views at every step. Don’t forget to taste a glass of Vernaccia DOCG and artisanal gelato in Piazza della Cisterna, awarded among the best in Italy.

San Gimignano is located in the heart of Tuscany, halfway between Florence and Siena, and is easily reachable by car or public transport.
