Step Detail
Morning
β¬οΈ starting point
X. Duomo di Milano
The itinerary begins from one of the most iconic symbols of the city, the Duomo di Milano (National Monument), one of the most spectacular Gothic cathedrals in the world. Before admiring it from the outside, it is worth discovering its Crypt, a suggestive place that preserves the relics of Saint Charles Borromeo.
The experience continues with the ascent to the Terrazze del Duomo, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the city and observe up close the spires and the famous golden Madonnina.
β¨ Climbing among the spires of the Duomo, with the Madonnina overlooking Milan from above, is one of the most iconic experiences in all of Italy.
β Visiting the Duomo and especially the Terraces may involve very long queues, so it is better to book in advance.

Once back down, the Museo del Duomo di Milano offers a deeper insight into the history and art that characterize this majestic church. After the visit, Piazza del Duomo opens up before you, the beating heart of the city, with its elegant architecture and the Statua di Vittorio Emanuele II, the equestrian monument dedicated to the first king of Italy.
β¬οΈ
A. Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II
Crossing the square leads into the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, one of the most beautiful and oldest shopping arcades in Europe. With its imposing iron and glass vault, mosaic-decorated floor and luxury boutique windows, this covered passage is a symbol of Milanβs elegance and dynamism. Stop to admire the famous bull on the floor: tradition says that spinning on your heel over its symbol brings good luck.
β¨ The light filtering through the dome makes the gallery one of the most elegant and scenic places in the city.
Afternoon
B. Pinacoteca di Brera
After a possible refreshment break in the gallery, the itinerary continues towards the Palazzo di Brera, which houses the famous Pinacoteca di Brera, one of the most important art museums in Italy. Here you can admire masterpieces by artists such as Caravaggio, Raphael, Mantegna and Hayez.
β¨ The silence of the halls and the masterpieces on display create one of the most intense artistic experiences in Italy.
Before entering the gallery, it is worth stopping in the Cortile dβOnore del Palazzo di Brera, where the statue of Napoleon Bonaparte depicted as Mars the Peacemaker is located. Inside the palace is also the Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense, one of the most prestigious Italian libraries, founded in the 18th century and still today a reference point for scholars and book lovers.
β In the main halls of the Brera Art Gallery, crowding and delays easily occur during the middle hours of the day, especially in front of the most famous masterpieces.

C. Castello Sforzesco
The final stop of the route leads to the majestic Castello Sforzesco, one of the most imposing fortifications in Europe and a symbol of the power of the dukes of Milan. The Torre del Filarete welcomes visitors at the entrance, leading them into a complex that holds centuries of history and culture.
β¨ Walking through the courtyards, towers and museums of the Castello Sforzesco gives the feeling of entering Renaissance Milan under the Sforza dynasty.
The castle hosts numerous museums of great value: the Pinacoteca del Castello Sforzesco, with works by Bellini and Canaletto; the Museo dβArte Antica, which preserves medieval and Renaissance sculptural works; the Museo Egizio di Milano, with artifacts from ancient Egypt; and the famous Sala delle Asse, frescoed by Leonardo da Vinci with an intricate network of branches and leaves.
Also unmissable is the visit to the Museo PietΓ Rondanini, which preserves Michelangeloβs last unfinished work, a masterpiece of extraordinary emotional intensity.
The castle also hosts the Museum of Musical Instruments, the Museum of Furniture and Wooden Sculptures, the Museum of Decorative Arts and the Museum of Prehistory and Protohistory, making it an essential stop for anyone who wants to explore Milanβs history and art.
β The complex is very large: without a targeted selection of rooms, you risk wasting time and diluting the experience.
