Morning
β¬οΈ starting point
X. Piazza Duomo
The journey to discover Trento begins at Piazza Duomo, the beating heart of the city, surrounded by elegant frescoed palaces and dominated by the majesty of the Duomo di San Vigilio (National Monument). Inside the cathedral, in addition to the splendid frescoes, it is possible to descend to the Basilica Paleocristiana di San Vigilio, an archaeological area preserving the remains of the ancient place of worship.
β¨ The interior of the Duomo is striking for its solemn atmosphere and the almost unreal silence that envelops the nave.
π‘ The descent to the underlying early Christian basilica reveals one of the rare examples of visible historical stratification in Italy.
Just a few steps away, the Museo Diocesano Tridentino tells the religious history of the city, displaying precious artworks and testimonies linked to the Council of Trento. The visit continues with the nearby Palazzo Pretorio, a former episcopal seat in the Middle Ages, and the Torre Civica, once a bell tower and prison. In the center of the square stands the monumental Fontana del Nettuno, a symbol of the city, and nearby is the lesser-known but charming Fontana dell’Aquila.
β¬οΈ
A. Palazzo Thun
Leaving Piazza Duomo, continue along Via Rodolfo Belenzani, one of the most elegant streets in Trento, lined with historic buildings decorated with beautiful Renaissance frescoes. Along the way, you will find Palazzo Thun, now the City Hall, whose imposing façade testifies to the power of the noble family that once lived there.
Afternoon
β¬οΈ
B. Spazio Archeologico Sotterraneo del Sas
The second part of the day takes us into the heart of ancient Tridentum, the Roman city beneath modern Trento. Descending into the S.A.S.S. – Spazio Archeologico Sotterraneo del Sas, under Piazza Cesare Battisti, you can admire the remains of streets and houses from the imperial era, a journey back more than two thousand years in time.
β¬οΈ
C. Castello del Buonconsiglio
Not far away, the majestic Castello del Buonconsiglio is one of the most important attractions in the city. Inside is the Museo Provinciale, which houses a collection of artworks and objects related to the history of Trentino. Among the castleβs highlights, the unmissable Ciclo dei Mesi stands out, a series of Gothic frescoes decorating the Torre Aquila, depicting medieval life throughout the months of the year in extraordinary detail.
β¨ Castello del Buonconsiglio is impressive for its grandeur: it feels like a fortress suspended between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
β¬οΈ
D. Piazza Dante
Continuing on, you reach Piazza Dante, one of the most important green spaces in the city, at the center of which stands the Monumento a Dante Alighieri, built to celebrate the cityβs Italian identity in the early 1900s. Nearby is the elegant Palazzina Liberty, which adds a touch of refinement to the urban setting.
β¬οΈ
E. MUSE Museo delle Scienze di Trento
The afternoon ends with a must-see stop: the MUSE – Museo delle Scienze di Trento. Designed by architect Renzo Piano, this innovative interactive museum is a paradise for science, nature, and technology enthusiasts, with exhibitions dedicated to the Alpine environment, evolution, and sustainability.
Evening
β¬οΈ
F. Funivia Trento-Sardagna
The perfect moment to enjoy a breathtaking view of the city. Taking the Funivia Trento-Sardagna, you reach the Terrazza Panoramica Busa degli Orsi, an ideal viewpoint to admire Trento from above.
β¨ Especially at sunset, when the warm sunlight paints the rooftops and surrounding mountains in golden hues, the Sardagna terrace offers one of the most photogenic views in all of Trentino.

Sleeping
To make the most of your day in Trento, the historic center is the most convenient choice. Staying near Piazza Duomo or Via Rodolfo Belenzani, you will find hotels, boutiques, and guesthouses just steps away from the main attractions, allowing you to explore the city on foot and enjoy it at a relaxed pace.
