Accessibility: The Sanctuary is accessible without barriers via the San Luca Express tourist train, which stops directly in front of the entrance. The interior of the basilica is largely accessible, although some outdoor areas may have slight slopes. The Portico di San Luca, if walked, includes sections with many steps and elevation changes.

How to Get There
On foot: one of the most scenic ways to reach the Sanctuary is by walking along the long Portico di San Luca, the longest portico in the world (about 4 km and 666 arches). The route starts from the Arco del Meloncello and requires between 45 and 60 minutes of uphill walking.
San Luca Express: the tourist train connects the centre of Bologna with the Sanctuary through a panoramic route with multilingual audio commentary. It is the most convenient solution for those who prefer to avoid climbs and long walks. Departures take place from Piazza Maggiore or from specific points depending on the season (see above Selected Experiences).
By car: the Sanctuary of San Luca can be easily reached from the centre of Bologna by following via Saragozza and then the scenic road that climbs toward the Colle della Guardia. Paid parking is available near the Sanctuary, while during peak periods you may need to leave your car in the lower areas and continue on foot or by tourist train.
By bus: several urban bus lines connect the centre of Bologna to the areas near Colle della Guardia. The most convenient option is to reach the Arco del Meloncello and continue from there along the famous portico, or to use dedicated shuttle services when available. Tickets can be purchased at authorized vendors.
By train: upon arriving at Bologna Centrale, you can easily reach the starting point of the San Luca Express or head to the Arco del Meloncello by urban bus. The station is an excellent access point for travellers coming from other Italian cities. You can book your train here with TrainLine.
Parking: the area around the Sanctuary offers limited parking, often in high demand during weekends and the spring–summer season. It is recommended to arrive early in the morning or choose the tourist train, especially on holidays or during busy periods.
