Visiting Naples in just one day requires a well-structured itinerary, capable of bringing out the city’s charm through its most iconic places. This route crosses the historical and cultural heart of Naples, combining artistic masterpieces, evocative views, and landmark monuments.

For obvious time constraints, Naples in 1 Day will show you only part of the city’s wonders. The route we propose is entirely within the historic center and therefore to be done on foot, covering a total distance of 6.7 km (alternatively, you can use public transport), for a total estimated visit duration of 11 hours.

📌 the pace of the visit is very intense, so it is up to you to decide whether and what to possibly leave out.

Morning

⬇️ starting point

Stop X – Duomo di Napoli

The day begins at the Duomo di Napoli (National Monument), one of the most representative places in the city. Inside, you will find the Basilica di Santa Restituta and the Battistero di San Giovanni in Fonte, the oldest in the Western world. The Museo del Tesoro di San Gennaro houses precious sacred objects, including the famous jewel-encrusted mitre. A visit to the Reale Cappella del Tesoro di San Gennaro reveals the deep bond between the Neapolitan people and their patron saint.

⬇️

Stop A – Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte

The itinerary continues to the Museo Nazionale di Capodimonte, which houses one of the most prestigious art collections in Italy, featuring works by Caravaggio, Titian, and Raphael. After visiting the museum, a walk through the Real Bosco di Capodimonte offers a relaxing break surrounded by nature, with stunning views over the city.

Afternoon

⬇️

Stop B – Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli

The afternoon begins with the Museo Archeologico Nazionale 🔗, which preserves extraordinary artifacts from Pompeii and Herculaneum, as well as Greco-Roman sculptures and invaluable mosaics. Nearby, the Stazione Neapolis – Museo offers an interesting insight into underground Naples.

⬇️

Stop C – Castel Nuovo Maschio Angioino

The itinerary continues with the majestic Castel Nuovo, known as Maschio Angioino. You pass through the imposing Arco Trionfale to enter the Museo di Castel Nuovo, where you can admire medieval frescoes, sculptures, and historical artifacts linked to the dynasties that ruled Naples.

✨ A monumental castle overlooking the port: powerful, scenic, and an absolute symbol of historic Naples.

⬇️

Stop D – Piazza del Plebiscito

The final stop of the day is Piazza del Plebiscito, the largest and most scenic square in Naples. Surrounded by historic landmarks such as the Royal Palace and the Basilica di San Francesco di Paola, it is the perfect place to end the tour with a final glimpse of the city’s magnificence.

Dinner

End your day in Naples with a dinner between the historic center and the seafront, where you can enjoy the great classics of Neapolitan cuisine such as the famous pizza napoletana, frittura napoletana, genovese, and iconic desserts like sfogliatella or babà (see also What to eat in Naples).

Among the most recommended places are 50 Kalò Di Ciro Salvo, Pizzeria Starita a Materdei, Pizzeria Da Attilio, and Mimì alla Ferrovia, perfect for experiencing authentic Neapolitan cuisine. (see also Where to eat in Naples).

Sleeping

To make the most of your day in Naples, the historic center between Via Duomo and the Archaeological Museum is the ideal choice. Staying in this area, you will be within walking distance of key landmarks such as the Duomo di Napoli and the Museo Archeologico Nazionale, with numerous options including B&Bs, boutique hotels, and apartments, perfect for getting around on foot and optimizing your time.

If you prefer a more elegant and scenic area, the zone between Piazza del Plebiscito and the Lungomare is perfect: here you will find hotels with views over the Gulf and be close to Maschio Angioino and the main afternoon attractions. An ideal solution to combine comfort, safety, and charm (see also Where to sleep in Naples: Info and Tips).
